This week I’ll once again be taking part in Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. The idea of Stacking the Shelves is to talk about the books you’ve bought, borrowed, etc. and show off and talk about your purchases and borrows. This is basically the perfect feature for me because I buy way more books, and read way more books, than I’ll ever be able to review. I’ll most likely talk about the stores I bought the books at as well, especially if they’re independent stores.
This meme is once monthly for me, where I’ll round up what I’ve gotten since last month’s post.
This month I purchased 6 books, 23 comics, received 3 books from publishers, 3 books on NetGalley 1 book on Edelweiss, borrowed 1 comic, and received 2 book as Christmas gifts. Check them out below!
PURCHASED
This month I did a little more shopping than I should have with 6 books purchased. I got good deals on most of them though!
First I bought Exquisite Corpse by Penelope Bagieu for myself during a staff appreciation event at work. I’ve read this now and absolutely adored it. My review will be up in a couple of weeks.
I bought Gotham Academy Vol. 1: Welcome to Gotham Academy by Becky Cloonan, Brenden Fletcher, and Karl Kerschl after my boyfriend confessed he wasn’t going to buy it for me for Christmas. This series is so intriguing and I can’t wait for more.
I bought Giant Days Vol. 1 by John Allison and Lissa Treiman entirely on a whim. It certainly paid off as it’s a well written comic with fantastic art.
We got this adorable bargain book Catwalk Kittens in at work that I had to buy because it was adorable and the price was right. I have no intention of accessorizing them, I just adored the pictures.
I bought Star Wars: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka after seeing the movie. I was intrigued by the idea of a little more background info on our leads because I loved all of them after seeing the movie. I definitely enjoyed this book and I’ll be posting a review of it in the coming weeks.
I bought Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari on Boxing Day for only $10 which was an incredible deal. Hoping to read this soon but I’m pretty busy.
PURCHASED – COMICS
This month I bought 23 comics total, which is kind of too many.
The first I bought was from a new series of crossover comics, Harley’s Little Black Book #1 by Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, and John Timms. I actually got one of the variants, the sketch one that I dind’t like at all. The actual comic itself was great though.
I started another series this month, a Marvel one which is a little unusual for me. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 and #2 by Amy Reeder, Brandon Montclare, and Natacha Bustos were super adorable.
I bought Paper Girls #3 by Brian K. Vaughan. This story is moving slowly but its really intriguing.
I bought Prez #6 by Ben Caldwell and Mark Russell. Unfortunately this is the last one before they go on hiatus, but it was a really good issue, can’t wait for it to come back!
I started and finished a mini series this month that I really enjoyed. Harley Quinn and Power Girl #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6 by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Flaviano, and Stephane Roux.
I started reading series by Skottie Young and Jean-Francios Beaulieu that I’ve really been enjoying. I Hate Fairyland #1, #2, and #3 were great so I expect great things from the series in the future.
Apparently this was the month for new series for me, I bought New Romancer #1 by Peter Mulligan and Brett Parson this month. It wasn’t what I was expecting so I was a little bit let down.
I continued to read a series that I’m still not super sold on DC Bombshells #6 by Margueritte Bennett, Sandy Jarell, Ming Doyle, and M. L. Sanapo was not very good. On the other hand DC Bombshells #7 by Margueritte Bennett and Mirka Andolfo was a lot of fun.
I bought Batgirl #46 by Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr. This is one of my favourite series that I’m reading though this issue was a little confusing.
I bought Jughead #3 by Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson. This series has really not impressed me, and in all honesty this issue felt like filler. I might drop this series eventually.
I finally got Black Canary #6 by Brenden Fletcher and Annie Wu after delays pushed it back. This was a great issue and I’m so glad Wu’s back on the art.
I went into the city this month which gave me the opportunity so find some back issues that I’ve been trying to get. The first of these was Batgirl: Endgame #1 by Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, and Bengal. It wasn’t particularly good or of interest to me but it’s nice to have.
This month I was able to find Zodiac Starforce #2 and #3 by Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau.
I was also finally able to find Toil and Trouble #1, #2, and #3 by Mairghread Scott, Kelly Matthews, and Nicole Matthews.
EDELWEISS
This month I received 1 book on Edelweiss from DC Comics.
I received Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1 by Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette. I’ve read it already but I can’t say anything. Check out my review come April when the book is released though!
NETGALLEY
This month I received 3 books on NetGalley.
I received The Girlfriend Request by Jodie Andrefski from Entangled Crush. My review will be up in just a few days time.
I also received Not Okay, Cupid by Heidi R. Kling from Entangled Crush. I’m currently redint his and my review will be up in a few days.
I received Red’s Planet by Eddie Pittman from ABRAMS Kids. This looks really cute!
PUBLISHER
This month I received 3 books in the mail from Random House Canada.
I received Traveler by Arwen Elys Dayton. I’ve not read the previous book so I might just pass this book on to someone who has.
I received Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit. This definitely seems right up my alley.
Finally I received Red Ink by Julie Mayhew. This sounds really interesting so I’m excited to read it.
BORROWED
This month I borrowed 1 issue of 1 comic from my boyfriend.
I borrowed Harley Quinn #0 by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. This was so much fun and worth a read for any Harley fan.
CHRISTMAS GIFTS
For Christmas this year I only got 2 books, both from my boyfriend.
He bought me Sandman Vol. 3: Dream Country by Neil Gaiman, Kelley Jones, Charles Vess, Colleen Doran, and Malcolm Jones III and Sandman Vol. 4: Season of Mists by Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner, George Pratt, Dick Giordano, Kelley Jones, P. Craig Russell, Mike Dringenberg, and Malcolm Jones III. I’m was so excited to read these I completely ignored the other things I needed to read.
Ramble on,
Kimber
