‘Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.’
‘Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?’
‘Maybe.’

If you broke Elena’s heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she’s expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she’s not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels. Elena loves Star Wars more than anything else in the world. Her world is Star Wars, so much so that she’s never seen the prequels to avoid disappointment. She decides to line up for the first screening of The Force Awakens because she wants to find people like her, people who bleed the series, what she finds are 2 other people. Gabe, a quiet kid around her age, and Troy, a longtime fan who lined up for 4 of the other movies. What she finds are some kindred spirits.

This was exactly the dose of Rainbow Rowell I needed after reading Carry On. This tiny little novella is exactly the treat I needed. This book has Star Wars, cuteness, banter, and heart-squinching moments. The basic idea is that Elena meets these other outsiders and they become a community. It’s so adorable and Rowell creates such a fun and memorable cast with the group. This is a story I want more of! Certainly not Simon Snow.

A little note about this book, it’s a World Book Day exclusive. World Book Day’s a UK celebration of reading that encourages kids to get into reading. You get a token and trade it for one of a selection of World Book Day books or you can get £1 off of any other book. This is such a cool idea and I wish we had something similar here in Canada. Anyway that means this book isn’t really…for sale. I bought mine used on Amazon for about $7 with shipping (well worth it considering how adorable it is). I also ordered the Roald Dahl book from this year The Great Mouse Plot, though I’m a little afraid I might have ordered an entire set of them…

Anyway, if you can get your hands on this book you absolutely should!!

Ramble on,
Kimber
